Inorganic Zinc Coatings

Cor-Pro Systems Inc. is the leading company in providing fast and high quality inorganic zinc coatings in Houston, TX and other areas in the Gulf Coast.

Zinc coatings are highly pigmented coatings defined by their unique characteristic of galvanically protecting steel surfaces to which they are applied.

Because of its ability to provide long-term corrosion protection to steel surface even at voids, scratches, and pinholes, using inorganic zinc coating reduces the chances of defects in the coating system.

Inorganic zinc coating boasts of a uniquely anti-corrosive power even on already corroded metal surfaces.

Read on to learn more information about Cor-Pro’s inorganic zinc coatings and how you can benefit from it.

Organic Zinc Coating vs. Inorganic Zinc Coating

Zinc coatings come in two types – the inorganic and organic zinc coating.

Both consist of large amounts of zinc metallic dust mixed a type of binder. The difference comes with the binder, as the organic variety uses epoxy, butyl, urethane or other organic resins, while inorganic zinc-rich coatings generally use a zinc silicate binder.

After proper application of inorganic zinc primer, the binder holds onto the particles of zinc that are connected and the steel surface. This contact between two dissimilar metals, when in the presence of an electrolyte, will form a galvanic cell.

Zinc particles act as the anode while the steel becomes the cathode in the galvanic cell. As a result of this galvanic action, the zinc is preferentially corroded, as the steel remains protected from corrosion.

Inorganic Zinc Coating Benefits

Inorganic zinc coatings can cater to a wide range of applications. They are commonly used in chemical plants, refineries, heavy equipment industry, construction and engineering, transportation industry, energy services, and military, among others.

Inorganic zinc coating are used commonly for:

  • Long-term steel protection against corrosion even in harsh environments such as high salinity. This is the main reason why inorganic zinc coating is preferred in production of ships and other related structures.
  • Its capability of resisting impact, scratching and scuffing.
  • As an anti-corrosive final finish to industrial equipment and machinery.
  • primer purposes. A single coat of inorganic zinc provides weathering protection. It can also be used in conjunction with subsequent organic zinc topcoats.
  • Undercoating: its high zinc content allow for exceptional steel protection.
  • Its anti-corrosive benefits even on already corroded metal surfaces.
  • Its rust-preventing zinc particles.
